Introduction
The following guide will provide you with instructions on how to use Secure Messaging from within the Patient Portal.
Patients can send secure messages to providers through My Union Health Portal. This is a great option for patients to ask questions following a recent appointment or to provide additional information for their care team.
Prerequisites (if applicable)
This article applies to patients who want to securely message their health care team.

|

|
Messages are sent immediately to the provider’s office and to a message inbox that is monitored and prioritized by staff. In My Union Health Portal, patients can see if sent messages are “Reviewed” or “Unopened” by staff.
Patients should NEVER send portal messages on behalf of a patient who is not linked to their portal account. If they do, the message will be linked to the health record of the sender instead of the health record of the patient.
In the previous screenshots, you see the patient’s perspective of sending a message from their portal account. Specifically, you see the perspective of AMY CTTEST. Look at the screenshot below to see how that message landed in Message Center. General messages sent via patient portal are labeled “Consumer Messages” in Message Center.

Note how it shows that it came from AMY CTTEST on behalf of BENSON Zyxtest and BENSON’s chart is linked. This is how it should look. The message (from AMY’s portal account) can now be processed by staff, and the actions and correspondence will be recorded in the correct chart – BENSON.
If AMY CTTEST did not have BENSON linked to her portal account, she could not have sent a portal message pertaining to him. She would have to request proxy access to BENSON’s records and complete the proper consent forms at their next registration.
Conclusion
After viewing this article you should have an understanding on how to use Secure Messaging within the Patient Portal.
